What to choose, Individual training or Group training?

What to choose, Individual training or Group training?

We all know that fitness is in fashion. And that the practice of sport has increased since the pandemic, too.

In fact, perhaps now is the time when there are a greater number of sporting activities and ways in which they can be done. Go to the gym, train from home, take online classes, do crossfit in a group or train alone with an expert in hand.

The way in which we do sport will depend to a large extent on the objective we pursue, so choose the option that best suits your circumstances, your schedule and your goals.

There are those who prefer to train alone and maintain focus and those who prefer to train in a group, to motivate themselves and have fun while exercising.

However, both group and individual activities have their advantages and disadvantages.

Do you want to know them?

Read on, and we'll tell you all about it.

BETTER TO TRAIN ALONE OR IN COMPANY?

It is clear that one of the reasons why we exercise is to feel motivated and full of energy. The question is whether this goal is best achieved by training alone or in a group.

If we want to lose weight and see results as soon as possible is another major goal of those who practice sports. And how can I do it more effectively? Training alone or accompanied?

There is no single answer, because everything depends on each person.

Below we are going to tell you the pros and cons of each modality, so that you can choose the one you prefer and according to the moment you are in, since another option is to combine both.

INDIVIDUAL TRAINING

The advantages of training alone are mainly the following:

  • Development of self-motivation
  • Creation of a customized training routine focused on achieving goals
  • You create time for yourself, to exercise and feel good.
  • Increased self-discipline
  • It's an opportunity to enjoy a moment alone
  • You can train to the rhythm of your own music
INDIVIDUAL TRAINING

On the other hand, individual training is not the best option in the following cases:

  • Motivation is easily lost
  • May be a more expensive option
  • You have more excuses not to do it, because you don't depend on anyone.

ACTIVITIES THAT YOU CAN PRACTICE INDIVIDUALLY

The most popular are running, swimming and cycling. These are activities that contribute to lower stress and anxiety levels and promote mental and emotional well-being.

Then there are activities that you can do alone or in a group, such as yoga or pilates. You can do it alone at home, without distractions, or attend a class at the gym, if you prefer to train in a group and socialize.

Training at home or at the gym?

GROUP TRAINING

It is the favorite workout for those who cannot conceive of getting in shape without socializing and being surrounded by other people with whom they share objectives and goals.

The advantages are:

  • Take the opportunity to meet with friends and train with them.
  • Establish new links with people close to you
  • It takes the laziness out of training because there is someone to push you to do it.
  • Increasing motivation and developing healthy competitiveness
  • Perfect for those who cannot motivate themselves by training alone.
  • Having similar goals helps to encourage each other and measure progress
GROUP TRAINING

On the other hand, training in a group is not the best option, yes:

  • You tend to have a different pace in your workouts
  • You don't like to be in a group where there are different levels
  • You like to train without talking to anyone and focused on achieving your goals.

ACTIVITIES THAT YOU CAN PRACTICE AS A GROUP

Collective sports activities such as soccer, basketball, handball, volleyball, etc. are the best examples of group training.

There are also group classes at the gym, where the instructor encourages the group to achieve group and individual goals. Another example is Crossfit, which although in principle is an individual activity, people prefer to do it in a group.

Which one to choose?

On the one hand, training in a group is more motivating, and on the other hand, training alone (or with a personal trainer) keeps you more focused.

As we said at the beginning, no option is better than another, just decide which one is best for you at the moment, and you can even combine both, at a given moment it can offer you that balance point between motivation and socialization.

The important thing is that whatever you practice, it should be an activity that you enjoy as much as possible, since this way, the probability of postponing or abandoning it decreases.

And that you prioritize your health, giving your body the workout that suits it best. If you have back pain try pilates but avoid lifting weights, for example.
