Functional training is like God, it's everywhere.

And on everyone's lips.

It became so popular that anything is called functional training. Many have taken it as a way to sell their services and do marketing with it.

In this article we are going to tell you what functional training is, its benefits and why we use this type of exercise in the OTF method to help you lose weight and get in shape in much less time.

WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL TRAINING?

In short, we could say that it is the one that serves us for our daily actions.

That is, to move around the world and do our jobs.

And the exercises used come from our basic movements: standing, bending, jumping, throwing, climbing, pushing, crawling or moving.

Also some that serve as complements such as the (hated) irons.

Keep this in mind: they move all or almost all the body. Nothing to do with the typical gym machines.

FUNCTIONAL TRAINING: BENEFITS

Being movements that are already part of us, their benefits are many:

IS FUNCTIONAL TRAINING FOR EVERYONE?

Yes and no.

The truth is that under normal conditions, without injuries or other problems, anyone can do this type of training.

Always adjusting the intensity (weight or rhythm) and taking care of the technique of the exercises.

FUNCTIONAL TRAINING EXERCISES

These are some of the thousands of functional exercises that exist.

Body weight exercises: push-ups, pull-ups, pull-ups, strides, squats, mountain climbers or plank.

Exercises with weights or bars: dead weight, pectoral press, shoulder press, strides, dead weight or push press.

TRX Exercises

Exercises with kettlebells: kettlebell swing, push press, loaded, snatch or the windmill.

Cardio exercises: burpees, rowing or running.

Combining these exercises can create a very effective functional training circuit.

FUNCTIONAL TRAINING OR CROSSFIT, ARE THEY THE SAME?

There should be no confusion between these two concepts.

Some call CrossFit functional training and vice versa.

CrossFit is a specific training methodology that combines gymnastics, weightlifting, strength and cardio exercises.

Among its exercises many can be considered functional, but they follow very specific guidelines and with a specific terminology.
